Common Debt Mistakes

We get into deep debt by mismanaging our finances. A lot of times there are some very simple steps we can take to avoid debt but we refuse to do them. Avoiding these mistakes can keep you out of debt:

• Don't Check Your Credit Report- If you don't check your credit report you won't be able to uncover any errors that might be on your report, nor will you know if your credit rating is going down hill.
• Not Setting a Budget- Free spending is a big causer of debt.
• Making Only Minimum Payments- If you only make the minimum payments on your bills you will never get out of debt and it can help to lower your credit score.
• Past Due- If you pay your bills late you can get stuck with incredibly high late fees.
• Closed Accounts- If you have paid off your account in full do not close it, that will reflect positively on your income to debt ratio and can improve your credit score.
• High Interest Debt- Try and avoid high interest credit card debt and payday advances so you aren't paying as much on your monthly credit payments.

If you are successful in avoiding some of these common debt mistakes then you will be much better equipped to deal with debt and avoid debt problems all together. Remember that you can do all of these but when push comes to shove it all comes down to spending. If you spend more then you support you will fall into the debt trap. So be careful about what you spend.
